Description

The Arduino Pro Mini (5V / 16 MHz) is a compact, high-performance microcontroller board designed for advanced users who need a powerful yet space-efficient platform for embedded system applications. It is based on the ATmega328P microcontroller, the same chip used in the popular Arduino Uno, offering full compatibility with existing Arduino sketches and libraries.
Operating at 5 volts with a 16 MHz clock, this version delivers the same processing speed and electrical characteristics as standard Arduino boards, making it ideal for applications that require fast performance, 5V sensor compatibility, and stable operation. Its small footprint makes it particularly suited for projects where space is limited — such as robotics, IoT nodes, automation controllers, and wearable devices.
Unlike the Arduino Uno, the Pro Mini does not include a built-in USB-to-serial converter, which allows it to maintain a very small form factor (33 mm × 18 mm). Programming is performed using an external USB-to-TTL adapter (e.g., FTDI, CH340, or CP2102), connected via the 6-pin header (DTR, TX, RX, VCC, CTS, GND). This modular approach makes it easy to embed the board permanently in a system while using the same programmer across multiple units.
The board provides 14 digital input/output pins (6 of which can be used as PWM outputs) and 8 analog input pins (A0–A7) with 10-bit resolution, allowing flexible interfacing with a wide range of sensors, actuators, and communication modules. Standard communication protocols such as UART, SPI, and I²C (TWI) are supported, ensuring seamless integration with other microcontrollers, displays, and peripherals.
Power can be supplied through either the RAW pin (6–12V input) — regulated down to 5V by the onboard linear regulator — or directly via the VCC pin (5V regulated input). The ATmega328P microcontroller supports several power-saving modes, allowing users to optimize energy consumption for portable or battery-powered devices.
For user feedback and debugging, the board includes LED indicators for Power (PWR), Transmit (TX), and Receive (RX) activity, as well as an onboard reset button for quick restarts during development.
The Arduino Pro Mini (5V / 16 MHz) offers a balanced combination of performance, simplicity, and flexibility, making it one of the most practical choices for developers, hobbyists, and product designers who require an efficient and compact microcontroller solution for embedded systems.
